To me that sounds like a reason to be less complacent. Maybe everyone else is just lazy. Or too terrified to do anything other than assimilate. Maybe it's just easier.
I think some people just give up because it's easier. No one who's fighting ever says they're complacent. For some people giving up is easier than fighting. It isn't a reason. It isn't an excuse. It just... is.
