Your father runs communications, see if he can clear up the transmission and pinpoint any kind of origin.

We're not going to abandon them. We have to gather what information we can first.

I'll forward it to him. We can find the last point of contact, though. Right? Someone can look at the last time they pinged the network or something and determine that location?

In theory that's what the communications center should be able to do. I don't understand how it works. [ Wizard from the 80s. Who is currently really pissed off at his own ignorance about technology. ] Obviously something's gone wrong. We knew from the start there was a high chance of it.

The only experience I have with it comes from watching movies. Obviously that's a great point of accuracy. [ So, you know, you're not alone, Severus. ] This is so stupid. I hate sitting here and know that they're out there dealing with who knows what.

You must, to an extent. They're professionals. This is the very reason why experience was necessary for them.

If need be I will go after them. I'll tell you first.

I won't be able to sit still once someone figures out where to start looking.

Whatever's down there will go after minds more than bodies. The mentally broken way survives have come back, if the archives of the network are anything to go by, speaks to that clearly.

You said yourself that you'd go after them. I'm not afraid. Sometimes you just have to jump without stopping to consider the consequences. Kate asked me to help her. I can't just let that go to the side or let someone else shoulder it because of something that might happen.

What if it isn't Kate?

[pushfall]

I know. Maybe it isn't. But maybe it is. I can't just operate on the possibility that it might not be her.

We have to keep it in mind as a possibility. Even down there.

I know. I'm not ruling it out. This ship is basically various levels of 'who knows what's waiting for us out there.'

Whatever it is could well be luring us.

I'll still go. But we mustn't forget.

It could be. And it could be Kate and who knows who else trapped somewhere and terrified. Or worse.
